Excited to share our latest perspective, nicely led by Néstor Pérez Méndez, showing that in rice farming, widely promoted water‑saving practices can lower GHG emissions but also harm freshwater biodiversity that depends on flooded fields.

We propose spatially and seasonally targeted alternative management approaches that balance climate goals, biodiversity conservation, and food production.
